When I put the boat into gear it stalls out, I was told there was a ignition interuptor for mercurys that can be adjusted. is there one on the OMCs as well? and if so how do I adjust it?

Does it stall when you throttle up without going into gear? If it's like mine, you'll have to advance the "start" lever or increase manually at the engine itself. Not sure how it worked on the mechanical shift units.

If memory serves me correctly that would be a hydro-mechanical. It does have a shift interrupter that attaches to the shift converter at the back of the engine, if working it should pulse the engine when shifting.

1980 was hydromechanical
hydromechanical drives do not have an ESA system, or anything connected to the ignition system like the later mechanical shift 800's

It does not stutter when I rev it in nutral, just when I drop in into gear, it stalls

sterndrive- on the back of the boat - does it try to steer hard one way as the engine is stalling?

can you turn the prop with engine off in neutral. then try f and r (eng off)
