I have a 2006 Mercury 90 4-stroke on a pontoon boat, and started having problems a few weeks ago. I took off and about 500 ft from the bank it sputtered and quit like it ran out of gas. It would crank up and idle, but when I give it gas it would die again. Pumped the bulb twice and it ran ok the rest of the day. I thought maybe there was a piece of trash and it loosened up when I pumped the bulb....The next weekend same thing happens but this time I have to keep pumping the bulb to keep it running. (BTW, I have never touched the fuel bulb in almost 6 years) Everyone in my area was out of 5/16 fuel line that day, but I was able to find one bulb. I replaced the bulb and it ran great for about 5 minutes, but now all it will do is idle. No matter how I pump the bulb or work the throttle, it will die as soon as I engage the throttle. I am going to try replacing the line also, as soon as I can get some. I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas...should I just replace the line, or should I be looking at the fuel pump, the tank, or something else. Thanks for your help!
