I have a 1998 Searay 310. Twin 350 Mercruisers,300 HP inboards. At the end of last season, my starboard engine began 'popping' when under load at @ 2200 RPMs. Treated the fuel but, no change. I took it to a very confident mechanic, who suspected a fuel system problem. New filter, new injectors, O rings checked. Pressures OK. He said my valves were 'tulipped' (or two lipped?) and replaced them. 'Heads are OK' and 'timing is perfect' he said. On a sea trial, the popping sound was the same. He changed the fuel pump, new water pump, and a sensor or two. NOW...when I put it into gear, the engine sputters and stalls. I need a hero.

assume all plugs have been changed and the leads are on correctly as you may have counter rotating engine but the mechanic should have done all this.

This was checked. All new plugs. Any thoughts on an electrical problem instead?? A sensor??

I might consider another mechanic as your post states he just started swapping parts on your dime.
