I'm having some issues with my 55 Evinrude so I may be forced to use a relatives 15 hp Evinrude to push my 17 ft Lund VFR the rest of the summer. This is mainly a fishing rig so top speed isn't of concern just need a good engine for some trolling and to scoot from one spot to the next. Anyone used such a little motor on a boat of this size? I know I will need to get a tiller extension handle to clear the back splash area.

I live near a reservoir that is restricted to 10 hp or less. There are several boats you size and even bigger that have 9.9hp outboards, they won't win any races but they do just fine. As long as your 15 is the correct shaft length for your transom I don't see you having a problem.

Thats what I was thinking to but just wanted to hear from a few folks here. Nice thing to is I will be able to navigate outside the marked channel on the good old Miss river, unlike with my old I/O boat.

Lighten your load the best you can. I suspect it will push your boat about 15 mph.
