Mercruiser 4.3 Fuel Pump Runs, key is off

2006 Regal 183 with Mercruiser 4.3 MEFI has been great until today. Found battery dead, replaced with fully charged battery and the fuel pump comes on the instant the battery connections are made.

The pump will not turn off until the battery is disconnected. Engine will start and run, but battery drains quickly.

Any ideas?

Do you have a serial number for the engine? Sounds like you could possibly have a stuck fuel pump relay (If it has one).

The relay failing may cause the fuel pump to fail. They rely on fuel passing thru them too cool the pump motor. Maybe it survived.
