I found a hairline crack in the neck of the coil. One of the posts was arcing to it, not allowing it to start. I wrapped it in electrical tape and that stopped it. That isn't a permanent fix, especially when it gets hot. Can I repair it or does it have to be replaced? When I look online I find can find the coil for $70, but it also says that I need to chage the points too, $170. (note: use with #### part number and that is the points)

The engine is the same as a Chevy 250 truck engine. There is nothing special about the coil that makes it marine - you can pick one up at your local auto parts store. (Some parts are necessary to be "marine" - and some aren't).

thanks, I just picked one up locally and it fired right up, at half the cost. New fuel filter will be here in the morning too.
