I had a problem with my electric fuel pump today. 2001 marine power 5.7 Vortec. Engine would not start today and noticed fuel pump was getting no voltage. I assumed it was the oil pressure sensor ( i think thats where the voltage comes from). I had plans and really wanted to go out so I ran positive DC to the fuel pump via a switched fused source ( I know its not a good idea). Fuel pump ran and engine started. When I got to the ramp I left the engine running while parking trailer and when I got back to the boat it had turned off and + wire to fuel pump was hot and fuel pump was also HOT. Ran a new wire to different source and ran good the rest of the day.

Why would fuel pump get hot? Fuel restriction running dry at idle?
Am I correct that power comes from oil pressure sensor? (oil is full with good pressure on gauge)
