Alpha bell housing help please

I am replacing the shift rod bushings on my pre alpha bell housing....

does the lower bushing go in far enough to be flush with the top? or flush with the bottom and protrude out the top a bit?

I replaced mine.... here's a pic. Don't remember much about the specifics however. Maybe the pic will help. Did you get the new style of bushings?

yes, I did use the new style bushings. the picture helps, I see the top of the bushing protruding into the exhaust area, so the bottom must be flush.

I did install it this way, but the shift shaft seemed to be way too tight, and wasn't exactly vertical. The bushing was really hard to seat, much harder than the old ones came out. either it was drilled wrong, or the bushing deformed with the installation procedure.

I am going to get another one and try again.
