Hey guys,
I just joined the site and am hoping you can help me with a problem I'm having.
The motor is a 2000 Yamaha 150 OX66. The boat is a Blazer Bay 1860. I love the motor, It pushes the boat great. Recently I've been having an alarm occur when running in the higher RPM range(4200-5000). If I back off the throttle to say 3500 rpm, the buzzer cuts off and the boat runs fine. If I maintain the high rpm, the motor goes into limp mode(I only know this because I had the radio up too loud to hear the alarm go off). The temp is good(I have an analog gauge) and the oil tank is full.
The only time I've ever heard this alarm previously was involving a high engine temperature or a low oil tank.
What are the scenarios trigger the alarm? High temp and low oil tank obviously. Fuel starvation?
Could this be a fuel starvation issue? It only occurs at higher rpms.
The fuel itself should be good. There's a gas station 2 miles from that the house that sells ethanol free fuel that I've been using for the last few months. Motor runs fine, no hesitation. I have a fuel water separator with the clear bowl. Fuel in the bowl looks good and the filter is less than a year old. The clear bowl on the side of the motor has fuel in it and is approximately 3/4 to 7/8 full.
The oil tank is full and the main tank on the motor is filled to the top mark. Any time I have had the buzzer go off, when I have pulled the cover the main tank on the engine has had oil to the full level.
I'm fairly certain the boat is not overheating. I ran the boat yesterday with the cowling off. I brought along my handheld pyrometer and was getting cylinder head temperatures of about 130 at the time of the alarm which corresponds with the analog gauge on the dash.
I have no clue what could be causing this. The boat runs fine up until the alarm goes off.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
