i have a 1975 mercury thunderbolt 85 hp does any one know what octane i should be using and what oil do i use in the lower unit thanks

Pump gas - regular.

I would use the mercury branded lower unit oil or the lower unit oil available from your local discount store

Either as long as it is lower unit oil and not regular gear oil

Somewhere on the container look for the word "Marine" lower unit oil, has special additives dealing with the special cut gears and water getting in oil by leaking seals. Good Luck!
