Does any one know if a GM motor will connect to the existing bell housing for a 470 Merc engine? Am looking at a Grady White (85) with a 470 in it and have heard bad things about them and just wanted to know if you could put a 3.0 in with replacing a lot of other stuff. Any help would be appreciated.

Guessing no because the engines are totally different.the 470 was a creation by mercruiser, never used anywhere else

Is there anything wrong with the engine in the boat? What makes you think it would be better to go to all the trouble and expense to change engines (less powerful and no direct swap anyway) than get the 470 running right? If you don't want to deal with the (minor IMHO) problems with a 470, then you might want to pass on this boat.
