Well here we go, Not sure what i got myself into. :eek: i put a floor and carpet in the boat one weekend and then said to myself, if your going to do it why not just do it right, so here we are next weekend doing a total resto. I have alot of questions so any of you guys that have done one of these please follow, its going to be a fairly quick project. today i stripped everything down. the transom gave me a few problems but a big hammer and pry bar helped me out. :) here's a few pics.

PINIT, Congrats on the project. You came to the right place...a wealth of knowledge from these guys. Looks like you're off to a good start. A hammer and a pry bar are essential tools in every one of Hoss's projects. Nice looking boat man, good luck and keep us posted.

Yah, you are in a whole heap of trouble now! But, we'll get through it buddy, no sweat:)

Hey, I know we were thinking Jupiter before but, uh, I missed that hatch you have on the bow there. Just noticed it!

How long is this boat you have there?

Re: {1965 Jupiter Restoration}

i wasn't 100% sure it was a Jupiter either, its quite a bit bigger than the other ones ive seen. I believe she is 18 foot. it has a pretty deep V in it. The hatch is nice for moving air in, i even think it keeps the bow down a little bit when its open.

Re: {1965 Jupiter Restoration}

it is 18 foot. mine also had that same style winshield in it when i got it. the Sunchief is the only other one i have seen with the hatch in it and that squared off looking winshield. so did they make a 18 foot Sunchief??

Re: {1965 Jupiter Restoration}

I grabbed mine from Menards at a very reasonable price. Where you are at you may need to drive a long way to find a Menards though.

Exterior and Arauco plywood are great alternatives though.

Welcome aboard Pinit:)

I could be wrong, but I think you've got an 18' Holiday there. They came with hatches up in the bow like you've got. The link above is a '64 Holiday that looks similar in all respects(other than being an I/O model).

I think the Sunchiefs were 21' only, we've only seen one set up for an outboard I believe.

Whatever she is it's a nice rig and a good project:D

I agree that it's an 18' Holiday. Real nice boat you've got there. Make sure you hit any bare aluminum with a light dusting of etching primer.

Re: {1965 Jupiter Restoration}

For the transom most of the guys in here have used epoxy to glue them together, I have also heard of others using something like PL to stick them together. Then coat both sides with several layers of the epoxy to seal it up good. A lot of the guys have gone to http://www.uscomposites.com/epoxy.html and http://www.clarkcraft.com to get thier epoxy.

how much do you think it would take? the transom on this boat is fairly good size.

Re: {1965 Jupiter Restoration}

If you're going to go the epoxy route, I'd get a half a gallon. That should be enough for your lamination and two coats on everything.
