water pump 1990 king cobra

have a 1990 king cobra cone clutch keeps over heating and .melting the impeller housing with in minutes on plane running a 984744 housing and 18-3206 sierra housing both melting. need help with this not sure what is going on never had impeller come apart housing is always melted near bottom middle of stainless insert

not sure it is a 1990 221 liberator the top of the drive has a hump not smooth across so i believe it shifts in the top of the drive the water pump is on the top half of the drive not in the lower unit like a merc hope this helps is also the 454
