I'm a newby on this motor but I have a 25 hp Mercury out board that will start when I pump the fuel bulb. It then runs a few seconds and dies. I checked fuel filter it's clear. I changed fuel tanks with no help? Could it be the air filter?

Disconnect the fuel line at the carb and crank the motor, not to start it just to see if the fuel pump is squirting a strong stream.

I disconnected the fuel line and fuel pump seems to be putting out a strong stream. The motor starts with the choke out and runs a few seconds then revs up and dies.

install a clear section of hose to the carb, fire the motor and watch for any air bubbles passing thru, indicating the pump sucking air into the line somewheree between the tank and the pump.
