1993 excel 18 with 230 volvo penta motor

Just bought this boat and am trying to run it before I put it in the water got my ear muffs on and am running water into the ports behind the prop but it starts to smoke and get hot at the exhaust boot any ideas would help am I doing something wrong ? Help me please I am in Portland and my summers are limited.

Do you have the full model number or serial number for your engine and drive? The 3.0L GM engine wasn't used until 94.

No It's a Volvo 230 a so 4cyl the drive is so cd trim?

Maybe the impeller?

The impeller is the first thing to check. I am also going to change your title to reflect the engine type.

the raw water pump, containing the inpeller is #2 in this link. Is located on the right side of the motor on the front with two tubes going into it.

Here is the pump itself, #5 is the impeller.

You simply remove the cover, pry the impeller out carefully, and replace it with a new one.

Ok I'll try that thanks also can this system become air locked and not pump and the boat is on a hill with the bow facing down could that also cause a problem.

Ok so its not so much that its over heating its that I'm not getting any water out or the exhaust

Ok I figured it out so simple the pump was air locked I had to fill the resiviour while it was running to get the air out now it works just fine
