is this usual or might there be a problem? if so what might be the cause?

Normal. Just to be on top of things.Do a compression test.That's a good indicator of future problems.Check the fuel pump diaphram.Ethanol is a problem with the rubber in older motors.
Replace any soft or extremly hard hoses.J
