I have a 1998 Stingray with a 3.0l Mercruiser alpha 1 drive engine. Since I got the boat back there is a creaking/squeaking noise when you engage the engine. As you accelerate the pitch of the noise goes higher and then stops once you're over about 5 mph. What could I check? I want to ensure that all the fluids are fine and the dealer didn't screw anything up after bringing it out of winterization. The gimble bearing was replaced a year ago.

Can you isolate the noise to engine or drive? Check your belts and see if they are worn or your pullys have rust on them.

Yep. I looked at the engine area and it appears that the power steering belt is loose. It has about 1" of play when I push it in the middle. My brother-in-law also mentioned that when he used the boat there was a bit of a burning rubber smell when it made the squeaking noise. So I'm going to try to tighten the belt so there's only about 1/4" of play.

probably a good idea to just replace the belt as burning rubber smells indicate severe wear
