Does anyone agree or have a solution for my dilemma? My outboard runs fine but last weekend the tach started reading incorrectly (jumping all over the dial from 3500 rpm to 7000 rpm all while only going about 2000 rpm) and the in dash volt meter indicated it was not charging properly (12.2 volts when normally 14.2). I did some research in my giant repair book for Johnson outboards and the finger points to the rectifier. It says that most failures of the tachometer come from a failure of the rectifier since that's where it gets it's input and where the charge for the battery comes from, a low voltage output would also point to the rectifier. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Richard W.
