1957 Johnson Sea Horse

I just purchased a 1957 Johnson sea horse and noticed that there was a small pin head size hole in the underside of the pump housing- wondered if it was supposed to be there or not. A gas/oil mixture is dripping out of the hole when it is in the trailer position. Any help would be appreciated.

THe hole is the housing water drain. Keeps water from freezing and bursting the housing in winter. Normal for unburnt fuel to leak from there. IT can be lessened by WOT running, use of synthetic oil-----but not eliminated. RUn it in a barrel and it'll really nasty the water up. The synthetic is supposedly more biodegradeable than dino oil.

Make sure all those hole drain freely, or water will sit in there during the winter and freeze up. Then of course, you know what happens then. OUCH:eek: Your lower unit housing swells and pops open. The later motors went to 1/4" sized holes to eliminate the possibility of plugging up.
