Need to install cleats on the bow of my boat, don't know how to install a backing plate under the cleat, because I can't get get to the underside of the bow. Any ideas would be appreciated.
You're not trying hard enough to get there. Remember some little ol' underpaid man or woman got under there at some point when it was built, you can do it too!
Backing plates are a MUST for cleats. Keep trying. Rent the neighbor's 8 yr old kid if you don't have one of your own to get a hand up where you need it.
Have a couple of pics, cant seem to be able to post them. Any help and or advise would be great.
Checked out the video on the Acorn cleat from the earlier post. Is that the size of the backing plate that needs to be installed for the cleat to be secure?
Thanks for the help.
all depends on what the cleat is for. the integrity is determined by whether the boat's survival will depend on it (mooring), the stress on it (towing, or tying off a spring line?) and the direction (straight up hoist or lateral--the latter requires less)
