OK so i don't have a clue what i am doing. I bought this motor with the serial number 7185099 and model number 1090522 and someone told me it was a 90 hp. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YEAR. IT HAS 6 CYLINDERS. My question is the motor has just wires hanging (most would just have a quick connect.) I have a quicksilver control with the wires going to the motor somewhere. Here are the colors that i don`t know where they go Red with a fuse attached Two black wires yellow and red wire and a yellow and black wire. IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME AT KNOWING WHERE THEY GO ON THE MOTOR IT WOULD BE AWESOME I CAN EVEN TAKE A PIC AND SEND IT TO YOUR EMAIL IF IT HELPS

OK, look up the year of the motor on the maxrules.com web site. Looks to be mid 80s, BTW. I can tell you the function of the wire, by it's color. Does that help?

Red with fuse is +12VDC, Black is ground, yellow/red is starter solenoid, yellow/black is choke. You also should have a purple wire for Ign accessory power, a grey wire for tach signal and a black/yellow for ign killer wire.

It is a Canadian built engine. Note that the Canadian s/ns are to the right of the American numbers and in this case, 7185073 is the first s/n built in 1982. As the 1983 numbers begin with a higher number than yours, it makes it a 1982.
