Hi guys, I'm a newbie here. You guys came very highly recommended.
I have a 1981 Merc 9.8 I bought from a yard sale a couple years ago. I brought it home, stuck it in a test barrel, and it started up and ran great. I quickly noticed it was not spitting water, so I shut it down. It sat in my barn the last 2 years till today. I bought a new impeller and put it in. I stuck it back in the test barrel and now it has no spark.
I checked every connection and ground. The stop switch checked out fine. This is where it gets weird. I pulled the flywheel and inside the flywheel stuck to the magnets was a large E clip. I'm 99.9% sure it does not belong to the motor. Could it have shorted something out since it was in constant contact to the flywheel and stator?
I have a multi meter, I'm not the greatest with it, but I don't know where to start. Any help would be truly appreciated. Thanks.
