Tach settings for inline 6

I have a 1979 115 mercury Inline 6 and have just swapped my tach and lost the instructions and need to know the tach settings. I have it on 6p and it is way off. Any help would be great and Thanks.

I am thinking should be set for 12 pole or 6 pulse,running off of one of your leads coming from the stator to the rectifier.
