I usually turn the knob all the way to the left to kill it or you can close the choke throttle plate ( push the choke tab in, i have a 1960 25hp also ) hope this helps

I had a 1964 25hp Gale (a lot of yrs ago), and I seem to remember an electric button on the lower front of the engine that would stop it (ground out the magneto). It had a black rubber cap on it.

Depends on the year. Some had a kill button on the shroud. On others, you simply turn the throttle down so slow that it stalls. Or if you have preset idle speed, then choke it to kill it.
EDIT: I just checked. 1961 manual start motors have a kill button on the front of the lower shroud. 1961 Electric start motors, you turn the key off.
