Hi everyone, I am new here to iboats. We just purchased a '91 Regal Valanti I/O with a Mercruiser Alph 1 135 motor.
We know little to nothing about boats unfortunately. But we are willing to learn within reason. haha
Here is what happened: Just put our boat in the lake last weekend. Took a bit to figure out where neutral was as the stick shift was sticky. Finally finding it and (only hitting the dock once) we thought we were all set. Things were runnning great.
This weekend we went out for the first run since last weekend with 8 family members. The boat was quite weighted (as we do NOT asks peoples weight out of politeness lol) anyway..the boat was sluggish as expected but a little bit out we heard a thunk and then the boat propeller stopped working. In forward it will not spin or in reverse. We did not loose a sheer pin as this type of motor doesn't have one. When we do put it into gear you can hear it working and moving into gear but nothing.
We took the propeller off to have a look, and nothing seems off. When you spin the propeller the nut in the center moves and from what I understand this means that the glue has not given on the shaft (so we do not need to bushing kit -sp?)
Any ideas?
If so, thank you in advance.

Have a look at the shift cables... make sure its controlling the drive. Look at the coupler on the back of the engine... make sure its still turning the shaft. From the sounds of it... you may have lost a coupler or the vertical shaft in the lower drive. Did it ever overheat during any of this?
