My boat top speed?

I have a 1995 18 foot Sea Ray bowrider. It has a mercury 115 outboard engine on it. It has the following prop on it:
Michigan Wheel 3-Blade Propeller Pressed Rubber Hub / Aluminum 12.75 dia x 21 pitch Right Hand

It is topping out just under 40 mph. Does this sound right? I feel like it should go faster than this.

Any advice would be great.

You didn't say if you had a 4 stroke 115 or a 2 stroke 115.

Obvious question is how many rpm's are you turning at full throttle with the engine trimmed out? If you're at the engine's redline, you've probably got the right prop. If you were going to pull slalom skiers regularly, I'd tell you to drop back two inches of pitch.

Sea Rays are known for their relatively heavy hulls--and high quality. They'll never be the fastest boats around.

I am pretty sure it is a 4 stroke. It is running around 55,000 RPM's at full throttel and hitting around 37 mph.

You'd know if it's a 4 stroke or not by having to add oil for the gas. Also motors don't go 55,000 rpms. Maybe 5,500 or 5,000? It would be over propped if the latter.
