Hey Guy's... I am working on a restore which is posted in the restore section. I wanted to ask for a few opinions from people to see what everyone thinks on other item's for my boat once I am done redoing the transom and the floor.

This boat is a Cajun Espire Espirit 1987... It has a Suzuki 75HP Oil Injection motor. The questions I have will be listed into different categories in this post to keep things seperate.

Fuel Tank-

I need a new below deck fuel tank because of the fact that the original tank is still in there and it had old gas in it that broke down into what I would call lemonade haha... There is no real way to clean this tank to what I feel would be satisfactory not to mention that it doesn't appear to be water tight like it really should be. I have looked around and first off was thinking a 15 gallon would be plenty for this boat which I plan to use for tubing like we use to and small fishing trips etc... If someone feel's this is to much or to little please let me know. My question is where would be the cheapest place to buy these? I have noticed the general price seems to be 140 to 160. Also I am going to need to buy the big hose that goes to the fuel fill cap because I Had to cut mine to even get my damn tank out. Where can I Buy the Big hoses and the small ones that will feed the engine in bulk so I don't have to pay 80 dollars for a box of hose? I Have looked a few places but haven't found much. Also will the new fuel tank come with a sensor built in for detecting the fuel level or do I need to buy that seperate to attach to my fuel gauge?

Electronics - .

Attached is all of the original electronics still all original gauges etc... My grandfather I believe had a Lowrance Depth Finder/Fish Finder installed which I don't even believe works very well anymore... Next question would be should I scrap the old factory depth gauge and get a new garmin or something else that has a depth and fish finder combined? I am doing a complete rewire of this boat because when we received it back from a family member they decided to cut all of the wiring and ruin most of it anyways.

Bilge Pump and Live Well-

Alright the boat has two livewell's one at the back next to the hatch where the batteries and fuel tank etc are located. Their is also a livewell all the way at the front of the boat. it had a Livewell pump that had a Y Connection running two different way's one to the front one to the back with garden hose to feed the wells... I think the pump needs to be replaced. I also feel that the bilge pump has to be replaced because the bilge pump came out in three pieces when I went to remove it haha... I Was wondering what you guy's recommend on brands of pumps for both applications and the best place to buy them at?

Also I am seeing alot of people use nice breaker type set to rewire their boats... For a smaller boat like this should I go with a breaker setup or a fuse 12 panel setup? I just want to wire this properly. I have a electrician's license for doing homes up to 200 amps but I have never done boats... I know the concepts are obviously the same electricity is electricity I just don't know the available panels etc for boats.

Thank you to start with for reading my post and any advice/information/personal experience you would like to share is gladly welcomed and I thank you for it.

Re: Question's - Fuel Tank, and others

The fuel filler hose should be avail by the foot at a marine store. It is expensive however. If you pull the gas gauge out of the old tank, can you get a bursh into it to clean it out? Aceton or paint stripper should do the job. That is if the tank is still good... 15 gal is OK for that motor. It should last 3-4 hours at moerate speed.

GPS/FF combo is usually the way to go on small boats. Tach is good, Gas gauge is good. speedo is good. the rest optional. Does that motor have overheat alarm? If so, use it.

Any bilge pump is fine. recommend the kind that fits with least modification.

Marine breakers or fuses are fine. Corrosion on either can cause issues. Only use stranded wire. Marine wire is very superior to regular stranded copper wire in terms of performance and price. Use marine wire if you are near the saltwater.

Is your current tank aluminum or plastic? If aluminum, I've heard of people taking them to radiator shops which can steam/boil them clean somehow.

I just wired my boat and used this fuse block http://www.iboats.com/Blue-Sea-Scre...03432232--**********.985112289--view_id.38108 and it worked very well.

I've put this bilge pump in both boats I've had and am very pleased with it. The built in float switch works well. http://www.iboats.com/SeaSense-Auto...3432232--**********.985112289--view_id.392307

I am a HUGE fan of the Eagle Cuda 350 combination GPS/Depth/Fish finder unit I recently installed. http://www.amazon.com/EAGLE-CUDA-350-Sonar-Fishfinder/dp/B001NVIKS4
