boat stalls in reverse

I have an 2004 alpha1 gen2 outdrive on a mercrusier 250 h.p took apart before the 2010 season to change impella . ran fine all season taking boat out of water for 2010 season it stalled going into reverse, didn,t think much of it. putting boat in for the 2011 season stalls 98 percent of the time in reverse. sometimes if i pump throttle as i put it in reverse it wont stall .Any HELP will be appreciated

sounds like the shift cable is worn and dragging causing the shift interrupt switch to engage at the wrong time, might be time to replace the cable

Unfortunately, yer lower shift cable has given up the ghost, 'n needs to be replaced....
