Used chevy 350 smallblock

I purchased a Chevy 350 small block to replace my mercruiser 260. all looks good, but when i took the freeze pugs off it looks pretty rusty in there. is that ok since its just water running through that part anyway? or is there a way I can and do i need to clean that out?

Take a look in any in service block, you'll see the same thing.

If the engine is out and the core plugs are removed anyway I would flush it out . Better to start as clean as possible. Just my opinion though.
