I have a 2003 Mercury 125 powerhead that I need to replace. I want to go to a 115hp to stay in specs of the boat. What would I need to convert on the 125 if I bought a 115 powerhead? Are most of the parts the same, such as Lower Unit, electrical, etc.?

Re: Powerhead Conversion

You might tell us what motor you have. Inline six, inline four, and the year. an old inline six 125HP (if merc ever made them in that HP), is about the same power as a newer 115HP motor.

If its the inline six its a 68-69 model. You will need to either find a pre 71 powerhead to use your adapter plate or change the mid section to use a later model. All the parts will interchange unless it a 1980 model as ignition is different.

Just change the carbs as the only difference between a 115 and 125....

Change the cowling decal as well, so the HP police don't get you.
