1980 evinrude 70 wont stay running

I got a great deal on this motor. I didnt get to hear it run but checked the compression when j got it and it was between 125 - 128 in each cylinder so i bought it. Hooked it up and cleaned the carbs and the top carb was full of oil like motor oil or something. Cleaned out the jets and everything to rebuild the carbs. Will start up for a second or 2 but dies out. And keeps repeating that. A hint of smoke comes out the top carb after it starts. Coul there be oil in the intake still? Took out the plugs and cleaned them. They are brand new

Do you know if you have a spark on all Cyls. Check it all first.

Can you choke it to keep it going? Almost sounds like its not adjusted right, your link n sinking of the carbs and timing. Have you advanced the throttle to try and start it?

I dont like the sound of the amount of oil in the carbs. Were the carb/s taken completely down and soak for 24hrs? Were any and all core/welch plugs removed? Were any and all ports and holes blownout with 120lbs os compressed air? Were new OEM kits installed? Were float/s adjusted properly? post back results.

120 psi?...ever blow any nozzles out of the carb?
