So I have a 1993 wellcraft excel with a volvo penta 430B and here is what we have done.
I had the engine rebuilt because of poor winterization
The distributor was 180 degrees off so we fixed that.
We were getting little fuel into the carburetor so we rebuilt that.
Once we were getting fuel in the carb then we stopped getting spark.
We have now replaced the ignition coil. didn't work.
at one point we had a slow spark. when we hooked up the timing light we would get a spark once every few seconds instead of the steady strobe.
We asked around and someone mentioned the ignition module (under the distributor and rotor)
We found one of these used and replaced it and it seemed to give us a better spark and we were able to get the timing pretty close (12 degrees advance)
Once we got it to run a little we noticed when you give it gas it stalls right out
I saw a thread on here mentioning the ignition module does more than you think.
Could we have put in a worn out ignition module? Some have said these either work or don't.
At this point we are now back to square one. the boat and motor sat for a weekend and now we have no spark again. This is becoming the most confusing and frustrating project. Any ideas or thoughts are greatly appreciated.
