My ignition switch on my Mercruiser I/O went out and I replaced it with a generic one which looked exactly the same. The engine starts, but as soon as I release the key off solenoid the engine quits. I have power to the "I" contact with the switch on. The switch is a 3-lug switch marked with "I", "B", and "S". I am pretty confident I have it connected correctly. Any suggestions?

Ayuh,... So the switch is passing power to the "I" circuit,..??
It ain't getting to the motor....

Follow the power, 'n see where it stops...
Possibly, the cannon plug is corroded inside, take it apart, 'n clean it...

Re: Ignition Switch

What's the serial number of your engine, or year and type of ignition system?
Sounds like you may have a defective resistor wire if you have a points ignition.
