Royalties from mining to the tune of $1.25 million is being used to turn a quarry into a 70' deep 93 acre lake:)

It should be good habitat for walleye and trout hopefully.:D

Despite conventional wisdom to the contrary, mid-Michigan is one of the worst places to own a boat, and this will be the only place nearby deeper than 30'.

All the local lakes are shallow and weedy, not to mention crowded.

Maybe I missed it....

If runoff won't be feeding the new lake, what will? I wouldn't think rain alone would keep it full? Fresh water springs maybe?

Either way, very cool to have a giant pit turned into a rec area.

Yah, maybe good habitat for growing walleye;)

I'm not sure how this one is set up, but sometimes they have pumps running that can be shut off to allow the water to fill it up.

In some cases pumps fails and lakes get made by accident. There's one in Wisconsin that had that happen and all the CAT trucks and dozers stayed on the bottom of the lake.
