I had problems with my Outboard after eight years of not having a single problem. I seemed to b having the same problem a lot of others are having with the gas line breaking down from new gasoline, so I purchased a new hose and bulb and replaced this first. When I pumped the new bulb I could hear the gas flushing thru the carburetor and realized the gas was going thru the carburetor and filled the engine with gas. I had to pull the plugs and turn it over to get the gas out of the cylinders. I thoroughly cleaned the carburetor and reinstalled. I am thinking the fuel pump diaphragm ruptured and gas pressure from the bulb is forcing the gas into the engine cylinders. I checked the float and needle seat looks good. Could a valve be stuck open?

A hole in the fuel pump diaphragm will allow gas to leak inside the motor.

Unbolt the pump but leave the fuel lines on, squeeze the primer and watch for fuel leaking out the backside, if so, order a fuel pump rebuild kit.
