Hello,

We have a 94 Force Motor 120........it runs great, however, it has a hard time at staying at an idle.

I know that at WOT it's supposed to be @ 32 degrees and it is; can you please tell me what the timing should be in neutral at cranking??

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank You!

Re: Timing Help Please?

Usually, timing is set to 30 degrees advanced at wide open throttle. This is a given number and will not change no matter what the engine idle is adjusted to. Idle timing is different: It is dependent upon the idle stop setting and can vary anywhere from 2 degrees retarded to 2 degrees advance. Usually it is slightly advanced with the stop screw set to give a reliable idle of 700-750 RPM in forward gear in the water. The carb butterflies will also be slightly cracked open at this idle.

Idle speed is dependent upon prop pitch. Higher pitched props (19 and 21) will load the engine more in gear so the stop screw needs to be adjusted to give a slightly higher speed in neutral that with a low pitched prop (15 and 17).

Re: Timing Help Please?

Thanks Frank....also, is the idle timing supposed to be set in neutral or in gear?? Is 32 at WOT cranking better than 30? Which one is better to set it at ..at WOT?

thanks again!!!
