Just purchased 16.5 foot Grew ski boat with 140 mercruiser. The boat starts fine and runs in neutral great but once engaged in gear the boat will not rev past 2000 rpm. The boat has new plugs, fuel pump and fuel lines.Any help would be great.

Water in the carb and/or fuel filter?

First make sure your carb. is actually opening all the way up. Sounds to me like it's just not getting enough air. With the engine off, put the throttle at WOT. Then look in the carb. is it WOT? Are you saying the boat runs fine but just doesn't go over 2000 rpms? If it runs fine do you have the right prop? I just really isn't possible to run fine and have no power really? Wondering if it's missing on a couple cylinders too?
