Engine mount Question

Hi guys
I'm putting a 454 Mercruiser back together and noticed that the engine just bolts directly to the frame beneath the engine this then bolts directly to the Boat via a frame. Is there suppose to be an engine mount some where or is this the correct setup?

Cheers Wirly

Re: Engine mount Question

Never seen anything like that before. There is no way to align the engine. What is this in? It is nothing usable, if that helps.

Re: Engine mount Question

its in a Haines formula 233. The engine is in alignment as is surprisingly . I'm more concerned about the need to have or not to have mounts.

By the way if you haven't seen that before it bolts onto a 72c velvet drive and then onto a Mercruiser leg that i have yet to identify crazy setup.

Re: Engine mount Question

It's a TR or TRS drive, The drive itself can not be shifted. thus the reason for the transmission. Mercruiser also used their own tranny on some setups with those drives.

Ayuh,... My buddy, Bobby's 50 Scarb has 'em,... Pretty aluminum plates...

We hung the motors on the crane, aligned, drilled, screwed, aligned, drill, aligned, screwed, aligned, drilled, aligned, screwed, aligned,...
Well,...
You get the picture,...

They Suck 1st time around, but seem to hold their alignment after that,....

Re: Engine mount Question

sorry guys one more question on the topic.
should there be a mount at the back of the engine with this setup?
the two at the front just don't seem like its supported enough its almost like the engine leans into the velvet drive and the velvet drive leans into the mounts on the inside of the stern drive assembly.
