84 3.0 l4 omc sterndrive change to a new v6 engine sterndrive??

i have an 84 l4 3.0 sterndrive and i found an 84 sterndrive that came out of a v6 engine. would this v6 sterndrive (upper and lower) fit my l4 3.0 engine or would i have change other things?? is it worth it??

It'll be a different gear ratio. Don't think it will allow the motor to run at proper speeds. There might be some other issues too, but I couldn't tell you what. The 4cyl had a different drive (Stringer 400) than the v6 & v8 (Stringer 800).

the ratios are almost identical. 1.71:1 and 1.77:1
If it is in good condition, swap away.
You'll need a new prop though. The 800 series lower gearcase has a 15 spline propshaft instead of the 13 spline size you have now.
Only other thing you might have to swap is the steering worm gear in the upper. You'll know if your steering is backwards. :)
But those steering pieces are easy to swap between the 2 drives if necessary.
