I have a 65hp merc i was out enjoying my boat when it stalled and would not start back up could this be caused by bad gas? dirty plugs any ideas? When I started it. It was running fine it stalled 5 minuted into going when I Slowed down to avoid making wake for docked boats.

Yes, old gas will lose it's octane content(no power) also could clogs carbs or even foul plugs. Does it crank? Will it run at all? How old is the gas?

The gas is just a few weeks old I toped it off with gas from gales gas bar in niagara falls, I should of known better they are known for having bad gas. I started it up and it ran for about 5 minutes I have not been able to get it to start back up since I am going to try new gas and plugs as well as cleaning out the carb in hopes that will work.

crappy gas will lose octane content after about a week plus it's not good to put new gas on old if at all possible especially even crappier gas. Is the primer bulb stiff like it has a clog in it not wanting to let gas in the carbs? you could also have a bad fuel pump. can you smell gas after cranking ? Do you see any dripping from the carbs? I actually had a clogged line the other day so try the simple things first and eliminate obvious problems.
