With powerboats I tend to stick with modified epoxy (hard) type coatings rather than ablative. Reason being, ablatives just wear off too quickly under power; fine for sailboats, though. If the boat sits for periods of time, it doesn't really matter what paint is used, you're gonna have scum. you in fresh or salt water?

Modified epoxy type with a high cuprous oxide content (60% or better). Pettit's Trinidad line, or Interlux Ultra. These paints can be a little toxic, so be sure to follow safety recommendations for application and disposal. Hope this helps!
