I have a 1991 Baja 180svr 4.3 L 175hp. Ser. AGCF5077E091. This boat sat for 6 years after being Winterized outdoors. It turns over and I have power on both sides of the coil. The shift safety grounds is open and grounds out when closed so I guess that is operational. I have power into the ignition (purple and grey) module. I'm running out of options and felt I may get some help here. I have used the Adult section to see the wiring but I'm lost.
Thanks Guys

Welcome aboard!

I have to ask - why do you think you have an ignition problem? Not suggesting you don't, but there are other factors to check if it turns over, but will not start. Have you tried checking for spark specifically? Have you replaced your fuel filters and gotten rid of any existing gas?

We need an engine serial number SVR, not a hull ID number. In this forum it's all about the engine and drive, not the boat.

I have pulled the sparkplug out and grounded it and have no spark at the plug, gas hasn't been the issue as of yet, I have an engine # D392378 this is the # I have listed on the C.O.

Have you pulled off the Dist cap and have a look?

Re: 4.3 mercrusier ignition problem

SO I followed the flow chart and made my way down to "unplug WHT/RED bullet connector from Dist term, which I took as disconnect nut and washer and remove connector from the dist. I have no power to either the terminal nor the wht/red wire coming out of the ign mod.
I do have power purple and grey wires to the mod. which as far as the flow chart I'm screwed. Ignition modules are about 300-400 and I'm not even sure this motor or outdrive are internally sound. Can one replace this ignition system/dist. with an auto HEI and how does one wire the shift cutout. Meantime I need to find a used inexpensive module.

Re: 4.3 mercrusier ignition problem

So I pulled the coil wire out of the dist and stuck a sparkplug in it and grounded the plug out, I disconnected the wht/grn wire and with the key in the on position I grounded the wire and the sparkplug sparked. I needed a dist. pickup, got the upgraded one dist/rotor and we have statup, Thanks guys for everything !!!! :)
