How Tight

I'm installing new thru hull fittings. Is it better to tighten snug then after bedding compound cures tighten a little more or tighten until compound pushes out from behind face and let cure?

Don't CRANK it down and starve the joint of compound, but make sure it is bedded securely.

So basically tight enough to keep it from spining but don't squish out all the bedding.
