Oil Leak under flywheel & no spark - 93 - 75HP Johnson

I just ran a 75 HP that I acquired on my Boston Whaler this past weekend. Motor ran very well - until it stopped. Water pump working fine but flywheel was real hot. Also there was lot of oil under flywheel. Started motor again later on and it ran fine until it shut down like someone turned off the key switch. Now it has no spark. Is it possible that the oil under the flywheel is getting through a seal and doing something to the stator? Could it possibly be the top bearing is going, heating up and damaging the stator? I doubt that these are two independent problems coincidentally occurring at the at the same time.

Anyone have similiar experience to share? Anyone know how to test the stator?

Thanks.

Have you pulled the flywheel to examine it? It may be the stator itself that is melting down. Once you remove the flywheel you will be able to detect if it is the stator or bearing assembly.
