question about a mercury 1500 thunderbolt

hows it goin? i just recently bought what was sold to me as a 1984 Mercury 1500 thunderbolt, when i was browsing some older posts on these motors, from what i understood.. mercury stopped making the 1500 in 77 or something. is there anyone who can confirm this? im just kind of confused as per the year now

Give us a serial number and we can tell you what year yours is.Should be located on the transom bracket.
