Evinrude outboard engines power goes in and out when full throttle

I have a outboard 115 hp Evinrude that runs fine except when I am in full throttle for a minute or so. The power will rapidly cut in and out. Then if I back it down a bit and hold it at about 70% it will maintain. I noticed that the tachometer is having issues also. I am trying to figure out if its a stator issue or rectifier or something else. Any thought and ideas would be really appreciated.

Sounds like the carb/s are running out of fuel. To test this, have someone squeeze the primer bulb @ wot and see if it helps. If so, weak fuel pump. Get rebuild kit. If not, Could be some trash in high speed circuit! Post back and let us know how you make out!

Thanks for replying to fast!

So I did that test that you described about squeezing the primer bulb while in full throttle and it didn't seem to have any affect on the issue. So if this is the case then you seemed to imply that their could be some trash in the high speed circuit? That doesn't sound good. Can you help me with what that in-tells?

The next thing I would do to make sure you dont have something electrical going on, is to take a inductive timing light with you and with cowling off, hook the light to each individual plug wire, when acting up, look at the light and see if you have a good strobe. If not then its something electrical. That way we can eliminate ignition. Post results.
