Without any serial # info, I'm going off knowledge of my engine here. There should be a needle bearing inside the bearing carrier on the propshaft. You can replace this yourself if you're comfortable getting a puller and removing that carrier. A factory service manual will outline the procedure in detail. Basically you remove the lock tab, then the cover nut. Using a puller you remove the bearing carrier. The needle bearing will be inside. Inspect the bearing carrier, propshaft and gears for damage since you had a piece of metal floating around in your lower unit.
