I've got a 1970 70hp Chrysler that doesnt run but has a lot of good parts. I'm going to look at a running 85hp Chrysler of about same year and wondering if most of the parts would interchange if I need parts latter.... such as... Lower unit, basic bolt on components, distributor, powerhead, etc???

Externally they're similar. I'm not positive about the L/U, but engine parts should swap right out...

Everything right down to the crank, rods, and pistons will swap. Lower units (as long as they are before 1978) may look different but will swap right in. While the 85 carbs have a bigger (1 5/16 vs. 1 3/16 diam) venturi, they will bolt on and run but because the 70 block is ported much more conservatively, they will not give more power.
