Still unsure of the year/model number, but I know it's a 90's motor.

Got the carb kit and water pump kit and started to do the water pump.

2 things are grabbing my attention.

1)The water tube came out still attached on the water pump. Looking at the schematics below it seems that part 72 is the upper water tube seal. If thats the case can it be installed without removing the powerhead? It still might be up in there but Im planning ahead if its not or if the condition is bad and it needs replacing. Mabey I can place the grommet on the tube and reinstall the tube into the powerhead (hopefully)

2) When I went to slide the impeller off the shaft it hit a "dirty" spot on the shaft and gave resistance and the shaft started to pull out. Is this what happens when someone messes with the Pivot pin?

If so how can I fix this?

See pics and video..

Re: 90's Evinrude 25HP

Cannot find the model number. Ive found 1 welch plug with the serial number but thats it. No model number on it nor can I find another welch plug with a model number on it.

I read the manual futher and it says the Pivot screw is for the shift rod not the shaft .

Also I read the drive shaft installation part and it seems that the shaft just slides in there and lines up with the pinion gead splines, so I 'think" it supposed to just slide up like that.

I still need someone to confirm my theory.

part # 72 is a plastic washer that slides on the water tube and it's really snug then you slide the upper water tube grommet on,[go back to crowleymarine an look under midsection part# 21 it is the same grommet thats in the water pump] the washer is there to keep the grommet from sliding down the water tube, an no you don't have to pull the power head. hope this helps

From the looks of the pictures....... If you order parts for a 1990 evinrude 25 I believe you will be ok.

Lot's of times those are just "stuck" up in the leg. You may be able to reach up there with something and pull it off, reinstall on your water tube and them reassemble. Or, I've even gotten lucky at just put the water tube back into the seal without taking it down before. There's not a lot to them and seem to be pretty durable. Lot's of ugly corrosion in those pics though, so I guess you won't know until you get it down. As for the drive shaft, it's supposed to be slide in and out and yes, the screw is for the shift rod so I wouldn't worry about the "play". The splines in the gear holds it in.

Thank you gentlemen!

Youve made my day, I know some upper water tube seals you have to pull the power head to get at the adapter plate area. Ill check the leg again for the washer and the grommet.
