I have a 2000 mercruiser 3.0 that I just put in last weekend! It started right away I took it for a spin and it ran rough after about 5-10 min. The engine started shaking and then it died. Had to get towed in. any ideas?? my thoughts are fuel problem. maybe changing fuel filter?? i'm not sure.

Welcome to iboats! I would change water sep filter... check old one for water. You could run on aux fuel tank to troubleshoot as well. But I think you are on the right track thinking its fuel related. Goodluck!

Check your intake / exhaust manifold mounting bolts and see if they are loose. The ones that you use to mount it to the head.

Click on this link: Adults Only at the top of this forum, loads of info to help troubleshoot your rig. You can start with #3 on that link.

(the symptom is WAY too vague to be seriously thinking we can fix it over a keyboard). Your going to have to do some detective work and we can help you along the way.

good luck

remove fuel filter and up end into a bucket and check for water globules.may be a filter just as it goes into carb too.may be best to take that off too and remove lower fuel bowl and tell us what you find.all these can be done within the hour and will cost you nothing to check.if water is evident change filter as a precaution and if its as far as your carb the filter could be blocked there too.once the carbs off do the looking in a clean area and not in dusty conditions etc.let us know what you find.
